Our Studio
Who we are
A small, focused studio in Bangsar — working with considered care on residential and hospitality spaces across Malaysia.
Back to HomeOur Story
Built on observation, not assumption
Oku Atelier was founded in Bangsar after years of noticing the same pattern: spaces that looked right but didn't feel right. The interiors were technically complete — proportioned, furnished, lit — but something in the atmosphere was missing.
The studio grew out of a different starting point. Before any moodboards or material selections, we take time to understand how light moves through a space across the day, how the current layout shapes movement and mood, and what the people who live or work there actually need from it.
That listening — unhurried and specific — is what shapes everything we design. Oku Atelier works on homes, apartments, and carefully chosen hospitality spaces throughout Kuala Lumpur and the broader Klang Valley.
Mission
"To design spaces that feel considered — where atmosphere and function are two aspects of the same intention."

How We Work
Our standards and approach
A few of the practices that shape the way we take on projects and look after clients.
Site-First Method
Every project begins with a direct reading of the space — natural light, proportions, flow — before we bring any preconceptions to the work.
Open Communication
Clients receive written summaries after each phase. You'll always know where things stand, what's coming next, and what decisions need your input.
Complete Specifications
Design packages include detailed material and furniture specs — so contractors and suppliers can work from the same clear document without interpretation gaps.
Client Confidentiality
We do not share project images, floor plans, or personal details without written consent. Your space and your life within it remain private.
Considered Material Choices
Where possible, we source from local Malaysian makers and prefer materials with longevity over trend-driven options that date quickly.
Realistic Timelines
We give honest estimates and flag issues early. Delays happen in renovation work — our role is to manage them calmly and keep you informed, not surprised.
Interior design in Kuala Lumpur, shaped around atmosphere
Oku Atelier offers spatial design services for residential and hospitality clients across Kuala Lumpur — from Bangsar and Mont Kiara to Damansara Heights and Petaling Jaya. Our work centres on how a space feels as much as how it looks: the quality of afternoon light in a living room, the proportions of a corridor, the materials underfoot and at hand.
Malaysian homes present particular opportunities — high ceilings, natural ventilation, the interplay of indoor and outdoor living — and we design with those conditions in mind rather than importing approaches from elsewhere. Local suppliers, regional materials, and an awareness of tropical climate sit at the centre of how we select finishes and furniture.
Whether the project is a condominium apartment, a landed terrace in a mature neighbourhood, or a boutique hospitality space, the studio's approach stays consistent: unhurried, observant, and shaped by the specific character of the space and the people within it.
